Carol's journey in critical care: An Enlighten Project case study

The Enlighten Project seeks to explore how awareness of the physical environment in critical care may impact patient well-being and recovery whether simple changes improve outcomes. In this study we follow journey a long stay patient, recording her observations memories experiences different bed spaces both an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) High Dependency (HDU) at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. Patient's account gave insight into patient's eye view from various positions across unit can experience. Different side rooms yielded degrees positive negative responses, causing varying levels comfort/discomfort contentment/distress. perspective strongly influenced Carols' experience Critical care, she displayed attitude personalised lighting, aesthetics, environmental communication control, which were introduced during study.
